America’s state and national parks are more than scenic landmarks — they’re part of our shared heritage and a vital resource for campers across the country. At the National Campers Association (NCA), we believe these public lands should remain well-funded, affordable, and accessible for everyone.

Our Position:

The NCA supports strong public investment in both state and national parks and stands firmly against policies that restrict access, increase costs unfairly, or allow privatization to erode public control.

Why This Matters to Campers:

1. Incredible Return on Investment

State and national parks generate far more than they cost.

• Tennessee’s state parks alone generate $1.9 billion in economic impact while receiving just a fraction of that in state funding.
• National parks generate over $55 billion in economic output annually on a budget of around $4.8 billion.

These lands pay taxpayers back many times over through job creation, tourism, and local business support.

2. Affordable Camping Options

Public parks offer some of the most affordable camping in the country. They are essential to keeping the camping lifestyle accessible to working families, seniors, and young adventurers alike.

3. Rising Fees and Privatization Are a Threat

As park systems face budget shortfalls, we’re seeing rising entrance and campsite fees — and in some cases, third-party companies taking over operations. The result? Higher prices and fewer services for the average camper. We believe parks should serve the public, not corporate interests.

4. Maintenance Now Means Savings Later

Decades of deferred maintenance have left many parks with crumbling infrastructure. Continued underfunding will only increase repair costs in the future — while diminishing the visitor experience today.
